THE SCHOOL

Started in 1956 by Mr. Richmond, a white settler in the area, the aim of Ndalu Primary School was essentially to offer education for his farm workers. The initial name of the school was Waterbuck Primary, named after the common wildlife in the region. It was later changed to Ndalu RC. Primary (RC. for Roman Catholic). Since its beginning the school has never been renovated and is dire need of assistance.

Leaking roofs, no windows nor doors, uneven and dusty floors, neither desks nor chairs and very poor sanitary conditions. All this does not begin to explain the troubles that this school has.

In the midst of all this troubles, Ndalu Primary has retained great respect in the region for the hard working student and teacher community that make sure that it retains its banner as one of the best achievers in the area.

A new problem is loaming over the school however. With the new governments policy on free education being implemented in the whole country, the weight of the increased student enrolment has hit hard on Ndalu Primary. The fact that it already had few teaching, learning and sanitary facilities have meant that with the increase they are now over used to a point of being unusable. In view of this the governments health department has put a closing notice on the school.

If Ndalu is to be closed down, it would mean that the almost 1,500 students will have to find alternative schools. This is almost impossible as all near ones are private and too expensive for most of the population, which earns less than a dollar a day.

Please pledge your support to help us make this school and many others in the future both accessible to the many needy students and a place education can become fun.
