THE PROJECTThe project will not be for the faint in heart or mind. With hard labour and long working hours, this week will need every bit of your strength but all for the best of courses. Our first aim will be to make the classrooms more accommodating for the students and teachers. This will involve plastering the earth floors, painting and plastering the naked walls. The next step will be ensuring security in the classrooms. Here the windows and doors will be taken into consideration. By the time we get to finishing with the sanitary facilities, the school will have taken shape into a more lovely place that all will love to learn in. The toilets are too few for the large number of students and teachers. We will need to dig more long drop toilets before finally finishing with the landscaping of the schools environment. Most activities during this week will take both time and much energy as much of the work is manual will very few machinery and technology is accessible. However we will have a break in the middle of the week from all the work and visit the beautiful Mt. Elgon national park for an evening of relaxation before getting back to the gruesome work in the school.
All in all the project week will be full of working as we plaster, construct, renovate and try our best to give this school the face lift that it deserves. By dividing the number of participants into small unit groups we hope that the time frame will be enough to accomplish most of our aims on this school. |
